Some wineries use only estate-grown grapes when making their wines. Others source grapes from many different areas.
Huntington Wine Cellars, based in Healdsburg, California, produces wines made from select varietal grapes grown in several unique vineyard sources throughout California.
Crafted with the utmost attention to detail, Huntington takes every step possible to ensure that its wines are the truest expression of both their variety and terroir.
- The grapes for Huntington’s Alexander Valley Chardonnay come from the Costello Vineyard, which sits 1,100 feet above sea level, overlooking the town of Geyserville. At that elevation, the vineyards receive natural cooling, the vines produce smaller and more concentrated berries, and the resulting wines have wonderful structure.
- The Mauritson Vineyard, the source of Huntington’s Sauvignon Blanc, embodies the terroir of Dry Creek Valley, balancing ripe fruit character with minerality and acidity.
- The hillside Cooney Vineyard in Alexander Valley is regarded as one of the top Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the region, having supplied grapes since 1994 to two of Sonoma’s most famous wineries. It also yields some amazing, largely under-the-radar Merlot grapes. Each vintage has produced a distinctive varietal character, thanks to long, even growing seasons that allow for extra hang time on the vines until perfect ripeness and flavor maturity are achieved.
- Two Moon Vineyard (named for the reflection of the full moon onto the vineyard pond) sprawls across the top of McCray Ridge and commands spectacular views — the Mayacamas Range, Healdsburg’s Fitch Mountain and the Santa Rosa plain. Situated above the fog line in Dry Creek Valley, Two Moon Vineyard begins each day in sunlight. The Pacific Ocean, 15 miles west, maintains a persistent airflow to cool the afternoons on the hottest of days.
